Matthieu Ricard is a molecular biologist turned Buddhist monk. He gives an extraordinary talk on the nature of happiness. He says you can train your mind to be happy, or to manage any emotion for that matter. That emotions are like birds flying across the sky, leaving no trace. Very provocative thought, at least for us here at Blog Santo Domingo. To paraphrase, is happiness in the past, or the here-and-now? Is it material, external? Is there a relationship between happiness and pleasure? Mr. Ricard takes us on an exploratory journey through the definition of happiness. He is also a skilled photographer and during his presentation there are beautiful pictures taken in his journeys through Tibet.
